Kaiserslautern held by plucky Darmstadt

Kaiserslautern - 1. FC Kaiserslautern lost ground in the Bundesliga 2 table after being held to a frustrating goalless draw by SV Darmstadt 98 at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion.

High-flying Darmstadt came into Matchday 14 a place above the two-time Bundesliga champions but they were under the cosh from the first whistle. Karim Matmour might have put the hosts ahead midway through the first half when he connected poorly with a left-wing cross, and the visitors were again let off the hook when the Algerian lashed a drive over the bar when well-placed.

One-way traffic continued after the break as Kosta Runjaic’s men looked to provide their passionate fans with a goal, but the hosts created few clear-cut chances, with Amin Younes firing their best opportunity into the side netting. The Red Devils have now drawn four straight matches, while Darmstadt are unbeaten in five and move up to third in the standings.
