Gladbach’s Johnson nominated for U.S. Soccer award

Mönchengladbach - Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder has been nominated on a six-man shortlist for the 2014 U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year award.

The winner of the prize, which was inaugurated in 1984, will be announced on Thursday 20 November.

Johnson joined the Foals in the summer after impressing during three seasons at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The 26-year-old has ten international caps for USA to date and started in all four of the country’s matches at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

This season he has featured in eight of Gladbach’s Bundesliga matches, starting three, and is currently in the USA squad to face the Republic of Ireland in a friendly in Dublin on Tuesday evening.

Former FC Schalke 04 midfielder Jermaine Jones is another of the nominees for the award, alongside Tim Howard, Kyle Beckerman, Clint Dempsey and Alejandro Bedoya.
