De Bruyne: 'Everyone's doing their bit'

Stuttgart - If five wins on the bounce make VfL Wolfsburg the form team in the Bundesliga at present, a league-high seven assists might make the division's form player.

The 23-year-old Belgium international was the star of the show in the Wolves' latest success - a 4-0 rout at VfB Stuttgart - scoring one himself and providing another two, as the 2009 Bundesliga Champions climbed to second in the table. After the game, De Bruyne spoke exclusively with bundesliga.com to analyse just how rich a vein of form this is for him and his team, praising the collective effort of the squad and giving his own input on the Wolves' eye-catching style of play.

bundesliga.com: Kevin De Bruyne, a classy 0-4 win away to VfB Stuttgart - Wolfsburg look like the form team in the league right now. Why did things go quite so well for you and the team here?

Kevin de Bruyne: Ivan Perisic scoring the opener came at a good time. After that we found enough gaps to play to our strengths and score plenty of goals.

bundesliga.com: You looked to be a particularly beneficial recipient of the extra space you mentioned...

De Bruyne: Yes, obviously. We countered quickly and I had enough room to run at the Stuttgart defence. Luiz Gustavo and Josuha Guilavogui gave the team protection so that I could go forward more often and I was able to concentrate perfectly on playing my game. But as a team we all played brilliantly in the second half and we saw the game out very cleverly.

bundesliga.com: You're now in second place in the standings. Do you feel like the second best team in Germany at present?

De Bruyne: We're not interested in how we feel right now. The only thing that matters is that we're in second in the table.

bundesliga.com: But things could hardly be going better for you...

De Bruyne: Yes, but we know there's still a lot of hard work to be done. We've got lots of tough games coming up, in the league and the UEFA Europa League, so we're taking things game by game.

bundesliga.com: Still, this result, and particularly the performance in winning 4-0 here, should give you confidence for the future...

De Bruyne: That's true, but I don't think Stuttgart played that badly. We just took advantage of their mistakes clinically. They just gave us too much room, and teams struggle against us when they do that.

bundesliga.com: What are Wolfsburg's targets now?

De Bruyne: I'm not really bothered about that now. We're playing in different competitions and we have a different target in all of them. We just want to win every game we can and get as many points as possible. And if we lose a game, then we have to give it everything in the next one.

bundesliga.com Compared to last season, in what areas have Wolfsburg made the biggest leap forward?

De Bruyne: We're just in a good run of form right now and we all have a lot of confidence. Everyone is doing their bit, and on top of that we have a competitive squad. Everyone that comes off the bench makes the team stronger. At the moment, everyone is playing really good football and raising the team's level of performance.

bundesliga.com: And personally, is this the best you've felt on a football pitch?

De Bruyne: For an attacking player like me, this is just a really good time and that's down to the fact that we play quickly and directly. We don't play with long balls - that's just not our style.
