Neuer number one on matchday 9

Cologne - His sublime saves kept Borussia Mönchengladbach at bay on Sunday, preserving FC Bayern's unbeaten record this season and earning him the unanimous vote of bundesliga.com's Player of the Week.

Manuel Neuer, who has also made the 23-man shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d'Or 2014, underlined once again his glowing reputation as the world's best custodian. Already fitted out with the IFFHS Goalkeeper of the Year award for 2013, the 28-year-old really is second to none in his position.

Landslide victory

There is little doubt that had it not been for Neuer, Bayern would have been licking their wounds after their first defeat of the season on Matchday 9. Afterwards, the Bayern and Germany number one spoke in an interview of what good shape he is in.

That caught the eye of bundesliga.com readers too with Neuer taking 72 per cent of the vote for Player of the Week, well ahead of Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Hakan Calhanoglu (18 per cent) and VfL Wolfsburg's Naldo (10), who would probably have been triumphant on any other weekend. Just not this one, which belonged to the shot-stopper supreme.
