'Owed it to ourselves'

Cologne - A brilliant all-round performance capped with league goals number two and three for the season made sure that ended up as the clear winner of bundesliga.com's Player of Matchday 5 poll.

The 22-year-old finished off a lovely Thomas Müller assist to break the deadlock in the comfortable 4-0 win against surprise high fliers SC Paderborn 07 on Tuesday night, before adding another from close range after the break. He took 58 per cent of the vote, well ahead of 1. FSV Mainz 05's Shinji Okazaki (25 per cent) and VfB Stuttgart's Daniel Didavi (17 per cent)
"It was about time that I scored again - especially after all the chances I had," Götze said after the game at the Allianz Arena. "We could definitely have scored one or two more goals. I think we played well - we owed that to ourselves after the game against Hamburg. We had fun playing football again."

The FIFA World Cup winner, who scored the goal against Argentina that made Germany for a fourth time in the summer, is next in action on Saturday afternoon, when the Bavarians travel to newly promoted 1. FC Köln.
