Kagawa takes Matchday 3 Player of the Week crown
'An indescribable feeling'
Cologne - Borussia Dortmund's prodigal son marked his return to the club in sensational style on Matchday 3, putting in a dazzling display and scoring once against SC Freiburg to earn top spot in bundesliga.com's Matchday 3 Player of the Week vote.
The 25-year-old ran away with the ballot, taking a huge 72 per cent of the votes cast, beating Borussia Mönchengladbach's (20 per cent) and in-form Japanse compatriot (eight per cent) at 1. FSV Mainz 05.
"The fans gave me a warm-hearted and fantastic welcome before the game had even kicked-off," Kagawa revealed afterwards. "I really wanted to win today and I’m delighted that we pulled it off. I had goosebumps throughout the entire match. When the whole of the south terrace was chanting my name it was an indescribable feeling."
The playmaker's performance inspired those very fans to vote in their droves, giving him a huge lead ahead of Gladbach's two-goal hero Hahn, who netted his first Bundesliga goals for the Foals in their 4-1 hammering of Schalke. Okazaki likewise hit a brace for Mainz away to Hertha Berlin, becoming the Bundesliga's highest scoring Japanese player in the process.
