Munich - FC Bayern München defender Holger Badstuber is likely to be out for several weeks after the 25-year-old limped off with a thigh injury in the record titleholders' 2-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart on Saturday.

'I won't give up'

Badstuber, who only recently returned to the Bayern first-team following a 20-month absence with a cruciate knee ligament injury, suffered a partial tear of a ligament in his left thigh against the Swabians and will undergo surgery to repair the damage.

"Of course I'm very disappointed at the moment," Badstuber told fcbayern.de on Sunday. "But I've learned how to cope with this type of situation. I'll be back soon and will pick up where I left off after my long injury lay-off. I won't give up!"

Badstuber had started all three of Bayern's league matches this season, but was forced off after just 43 minutes of Saturday's win at the Allianz Arena. His latest setback will come as a major blow to Guardiola, who is already without a number of key players for the visit of English Premier League champions Manchester City FC in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
