Leverkusen - Bayer 04 Leverkusen have suffered another injury blow after youngster Julian Brandt tore the medial collateral ligament in his right ankle on Monday.

'Really unlucky'

The news comes just four days after it was confirmed club captain and fellow midfielder would require surgery to remedy a similar ailment, with both players now set for up to three weeks on the sidelines.

"I was just really unlucky," explained Brandt, who was part of Germany's UEFA Under-19 European Championship-winning squad this summer. "I happened to go over on it, and now I've got to focus on getting fit again as quickly as possible."

The 18-year-old struck his first goal of the season in Matchday 2's 4-2 victory over Hertha Berlin, but now looks set to miss at least this weekend's clash with SV Werder Bremen as well as die Werkself's opening 2014/15 UEFA Champions League group fixture at AS Monaco FC on 16 September.
