Knee injury sidelines Bungert
Mainz - Niko Bungert faces a spell on the sidelines after it was confirmed on Saturday evening that the German centre-back had suffered a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during 1. FSV Mainz 05’s pre-season friendly win over 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
The 27-year-old will likely be out for several weeks, but will travel with the side to their pre-season training camp in Birmingham, England, on Sunday morning, where his rehabilitation process will be monitored by the Mainz medical staff on site.
Bungert wasn’t the only casualty of the 2-1 win over the Bundesliga 2 promotion contenders, however, after Devante Parker was forced off with an ankle sprain, meaning he too will have to watch on as a spectator throughout the duration of their summer schedule in England.
