Hamburg - Hamburger SV have arrived in China for the next stage of the club’s preparations ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.

'A real test'

Die Rothosen, who were the first German top-flight outfit to return to pre-season training on 18 June, are due to spend a week in the south-eastern city of Guangzhou and have lined up two friendlies against high-profile opposition.

Mirko Slomka’s side face Guangzhou Evergrande, current league leaders of the Chinese Super League and winners of the 2013 AFC Champions League, on Sunday, before taking on Guangzhou R&F this coming Wednesday. Evergrande are currently coached by former Italy boss Marcello Lippi, while ex-England coach Sven-Göran Eriksson is in charge of local rivals R&F.

“We’re looking forward to the two matches,” Slomka told hsv.de on Saturday. “Both teams will represent a real test for us, both physically and technically, which should enable us to take that next step in our preparations.”

Hamburg are the second Bundesliga side to fly to China this summer after SV Werder Bremen began their week-long pre-season tour of the country on Monday.
