Munich - FC Bayern München midfielder Thiago Alcantara has taken a big step forward in his quest to return to full fitness.

The 23-year-old Spanish international, who suffered a partial tear to his medial ligament in FC Bayern’s 3-3 draw at home to 1899 Hoffenheim on Matchday 28, started light running exercises with rehab coach Thomas Wilhelmi on Saturday.

Thiago is expected to slowly increase his workload over the coming days, with Bayern hoping their marquee summer signing from FC Barcelona will be available for the final weeks of the current campaign. The German record champions are still competing on three fronts in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
