Mönchengladbach - Borussia Mönchengladbach have completed the signing of goalkeeper Yann Sommer from Swiss champions FC Basel 1893 on a five-year contract.

Wealth of experience

The 25-year-old will link up with his new team-mates in the summer and is set to take the place of current Foals no. 1 , whose departure at the end of the season was also confirmed on Monday.

"Yann Sommer is an outstanding goalkeeper who has already gained huge international experience, despite being only 25, and we're delighted he has chosen to come to us," said Gladbach's sporting director Max Eberl.

Sommer, winner of the Swiss Super League title with Basel in 2011, 2012 and 2013, has already appeared in the UEFA Champions League, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against FC Bayern München in the knockout rounds two years ago,- and also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League in 2012/13. He has been capped five times by Switzerland and will likely be understudy to VfL Wolfsburg's Diego Benaglio at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil this summer.

ter Stegen to move abroad

Eberl also revealed that ter Stegen will "definitely move abroad at the end of the season and we have reached an agreement with his new club." The 21-year-old Germany international originally announced back in January that he would not be renewing his contract with the Foals .
