Leverkusen - Bayer 04 Leverkusen midfielder has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after tearing ankle ligaments.
Missing for Paris
The midfielder suffered the injury to his right ankle during Die Werkself's 1-1 draw with Hannover 96 on Saturday.
An MRI scan performed on Sunday revealed that Hegeler will miss not only Bayer's trip to Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday but also the rest of the domestic campaign. The 26-year-old, who has made five appearances in Europe as well as 18 in the Bundesliga this season, is due to have surgery on Monday.
Leverkusen, currently third in the Bundesliga table, head to the French capital looking to overturn a 4-0 deficit from the first leg at the BayArena.
