Off the Ball
Munich - Ever wondered what your favourite Bundesliga stars get up to during the week? No sweat, Off the Ball, bundesliga.com's fun-filled periodical, has all the answers.
In today's issue, we check in with the up-and coming FC Bayern München star making waves in his homeland, discover which Borussia Dortmund ambassador went to bed without any supper and round up how FC Schalke 04's beleaguered troops fared on their travels.
While Germany's
was busy seeing off adventurous Chile on Wednesday, the midfielder's FC Bayern München colleague
had just as big a say in the Denmark Under-21's 8-0 win over Estonia. The 18-year-old scored twice on the night, delivering the kind of all-round display befitting his next generation superstar status. The 18-year-old made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern back in Apri, but has featured just three times in the league this season.
It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for the Bundesliga's international representatives, though, with Borussia Dortmund's second-choice goalkeeper
proving that beyond any doubt. The 22-year-old had only been on the pitch for 12 minutes before receiving his marching orders in a bizarre game which ended 4-3 to Ecuador, despite Australia taking a 3-0 first-half lead.
The change of scenery had a similarly adverse effect on FC Schalke 04's internationals, with
given another unwelcome roasting by Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal's 5-1 win over Cameroon. Midfielder
and defender Sead Kolasinac also tasted defeat for Ghana and Bosnia respectively, just two days before the
return to the domestic stage to face 1899 Hoffenheim this weekend.
