Leverkusen - Brazilian left-back Wendell will swap Gremio FB Porto Alegrense for Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the summer after agreeing a five-year deal with the Rhineland club.

'A great reputation'

The 20-year-old joins fellow Samba stars and former Werkself icons Ze Roberto and Lucio in making the BayArena his first posting away from his native Brazil, penning a contract set to run until 30 June 2019.

"Wendell's a massive talent, who can make an immediate impact at the club," said Bayer 04 sporting director Rudi Völler. "We're in no doubt the he can continue the tradition of top Brazilian players coming to Leverkusen."

For Wendell himself, the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga was simply too good to miss. "Bayer 04 have a great reputation in Brazil following their past dealings in the country," the diminutive full-back explained. "I spoke at length with my captain Ze Roberto, who spent years at Bayer. He had nothing but positives to say about his time at Leverkusen and advised me to go for it."

Wendell, whose full name is Wendell Nascimento Borges, has made two appearances in this season's Copa Libertadores, chipping in with one assist.
