Munich - Eintracht Braunschweig may have struggled to adapt to life in the Bundesliga in 2013/14, but no matter what fate has in store for the Lions this season, Matchday 21 is certain to live long in the memories of Torsten Lieberknecht's side - and one of his players in particlar.

Goal hungry

entered the fray at the Eintracht-Stadion on Saturday with Braunschweig trailing HSV 1-0. Forty-five minutes later, the 29-year-old had completed his first-ever Bundesliga hat-trick to help the basement-dwellers seal a much-needed 4-2 victory over their direct rivals in the league - and win Matchday 21's Player of the Week vote as a result.

Fifty-two per cent of bundesliga.com users felt Kumbela's display merited the post-matchday award, but the striker wasn't the only player to impress at the weekend. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came second in the vote (32 per cent) following his brace against Eintracht Frankfurt at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday.

The Gabon international is just one goal shy of team-mate Robert Lewandowski and Hertha Berlin's Adrian Ramos, who currently share top spot in the goal-scoring chart. More importantly, the victory over Armin Veh's team closes the gap between BVB and second-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen to a solitary point.

Shaqiri in third

In third place, with nine per cent of the vote, was FC Bayern München's Xherdan Shaqiri. The Switzerland international grabbed his first Bayern double against SC Freiburg at the Allianz Arena, but was later replaced by Bastian Schweinsteiger after picking up an injury which rules him out of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League tie at Arsenal FC.

Josip Drmic, who scored the only goal of the game as ended FC Augsburg's eight-match unbeaten run, received four per cent, while Jefferson Farfan's impressive display in FC Schalke 04's 2-1 win at Bayer 04 Leverkusen earned the Peruvian international three per cent of the vote. VfL Wolfsburg match-winner Daniel Caligiuri finished last with zero per cent.
