Dortmund - A fresh examination of Borussia Dortmund central defender Neven Subotic's injured knee has revealed that he may well be spared a further round of surgery.
Subotic, who tore the posterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee during the Matchday 12 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg, posted a photograph of himself on Instagram looking pleased following the latest tests in Straubing, Bavaria, which was then tweeted by his club:
The Serbia international will undergo further tests over the coming week to help determine an optimal recovery programme.
Hummels back on the training pitch
Further good news for head coach Jürgen Klopp is the ongoing progress of Subotic's central defensive partner Mats Hummels. The 23-year-old Germany international has been sidelined since picking up an ankle injury in November's friendly win against England at Wembley, but he has been able to resume light training at the club's winter preparations base in La Manga:
