Augsburg - FC Augsburg have extended the contract of head coach Markus Weinzierl and his foremost backroom staff until 2017.

'Delighted'

The sought-after young coach has penned a new two-year extension to his previous deal, which was up for renewal in 2015. His assistants Wolfgang Beller and Tobias Zellner and fitness coach Thomas Barth have also put pen to paper for the same period.

“2013 was the most successful year in FC Augsburg’s history,” said club president Walther Seinsch. “Together, we’ve enjoyed great success, so we’re happy to be able to tie him down long-term.”

38-year-old Weinzierl joined Augsburg in the summer of 2012 from lower league outfit SSV Jahn Regensburg and has led the club up to eighth in the current standings.
