Munich - Jerome Boateng has extended his contract with Bundesliga champions FC Bayern München by three years.

'More success'

The defender has agreed to extend his deal until 30 June 2018, the club revealed on Wednesday lunchtime.

"I am happy," said the 25-year-old after the announcement. "FC Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in world football. I want to achieve more success here." Chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added that "Jerome is one of the most important players at the club, we're all delighted he's extended".

Boateng joined the record champions from Manchester City FC in July 2011 and helped the club to an unprecedented quadruple in 2012/13. He has also represented Hamburger SV and Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.
