Gelsenkirchen - FC Schalke 04 midfielder has penned a three-year contract extension with the Royal Blues, tying him to the club until 30 June 2018.

Rapid rise

"I'm delighted with the extension," said the 18-year-old. "I feel great here. Two things were important in my decision: that the club relies on players from its own youth system and that even at this early stage I've got the opportunity to play in a European competition."

Meyer has featured in ten Bundesliga matches so far this season, scoring three times. In total the No7 has made 22 competitive appearances for the club: 15 in the Bundesliga, six in the UEFA Champions League and one DFB Cup outing.

He made his Bundesliga debut on 16 February 2013 aged 17 years and 151 days, providing an assist in the 2-2 draw against 1. FSV Mainz 05. is the only player to have made his debut for the club at an even younger age, doing so when he was 17 years and 117 days.
