Gelsenkirchen - FC Schalke 04 striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will have to wait for longer than expected to make his comeback from injury after suffering another setback on the road to recovery.

The Dutchman's original intention was to join die Königsblauen's January training camp in Qatar but after tearing knee ligaments again, the 30-year-old required further surgery and is now unlikely to rejoin full training until later in 2014.

World Cup not in danger

"The aim is to be back training in February," Huntelaar confirmed to Dutch daily De Volksrant. The later return date has, however, cast doubts upon the striker's participation in next summer's FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Nevertheless, Huntelaar is determined to stay optimistic. "If I'm fit, I'm sure I'll go to the World Cup," he told German sports daily Bild. "We'll have to wait but I'm only thinking positively."
