Nuremburg - Ten-man SC Freiburg picked up their first win of the season by beating fellow strugglers 1. FC Nürnberg 3-0.

Cagey start

Felix Kraus, Vladimir Darida and Admir Mehmedi were all on target in a resounding win which will boost spirits around the Black Forest club.

After cagey opening encounters, Makoto Hasebe almost fired the hosts into the lead on the 20 minute mark with a powerful effort from just outside the penalty area.

Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, whose errors handed Hamburger SV victory at the MAGE Solar Stadion on Matchday 10, managed to turn the Japanese international’s effort onto the post as the sides went into the break level, and tension filled the Grundig Stadium.

Klaus puts Freiburg ahead

Nürnberg left-back Marvin Plattenhardt went desperately close to giving the Franconians a second-half lead, before Freiburg took the lead against the run of play when Klaus headed home Sebastian Freis’ cross.

Freiburg defender Oliver Sorg was then given his marching orders for his second bookable offence, but the visitors were undeterred. Darida doubled Freiburg’s lead with a spectacular shot from 30 yards, before Mehmedi completed a memorable day for the Breisgauer, leaving Nürnberg perilously close to the foot of the table.
