Munich - Spain midfielder expects to return to team training with FC Bayern München in the coming days after more than a month on the sidelines following a groin injury.

"The operation went well, and my rehab programme is on schedule," the 25-year-old told the European champions' website. “I'm back out on the pitch, getting through running and sprint exercises, and I'll soon have the ball back at my feet."

'Taking it carefully'

Martinez was essential in Bayern's against Chelsea FC in late August, where the 14-time international's equaliser in extra-time forced the tie to penalties, which Bayern eventually won. However, Martinez hasn't featured since for last season's quadruple winners.

"I think - and I hope - I should be able to resume the team training programme step-by-step in the course of next week," Martinez said. "We're going to increase the training load over the next few days as we slowly but surely get back to 100 per cent, although we're taking it very carefully so we avoid setbacks."
