Frankfurt - Eintracht Frankfurt have added a new face to their squad in the form of , who joins on a one-year loan deal from FC Schalke 04.

Hungry for the challenge

The Swiss international midfielder began his career with hometown club FC St Gallen, before moving to the Bundesliga in 2004, when he signed for Bayer 04 Leverkusen. After a loan spell at Hannover 96, he returned to Leverkusen and became an integral part of their side, making 229 appearances and scoring 26 times.

He left die Werkself in 2012 to sign for FC Schalke 04 and played 22 times for the club last season, helping the Royal Blues finish fourth in the Bundesliga and reach the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

The 28-year-old was delighted with the move, commenting, “I’m extremely happy that this transfer has happened and I’m looking forward to getting to know the team and the city. First I have to join up with the Switzerland team, and then I’ll be able to meet my new team-mates in around ten days time.”

Barnetta has made 69 appearances for the Switzerland senior side, scoring ten goals. He has been given the squad number 25.
