Augsburg - FC Augsburg have completed the signing of Republic of Korea international Jeong-Ho Hong from Jeju United.

Following in Korean footsteps

Given the positive experience the Bavarians have had in the past with Korean stars Ja-Cheol Koo and Ji Dong-Won, they have moved for the 24-year-old defender, who has signed a four-year contract with the club.

“We’re delighted that this transfer has worked out,” said Augsburg’s sporting director Stefan Reuter. “As a Korean international, Jeong-Ho Hong already has plenty of experience, despite his young age. It’s great that we’ve been able to complete our search for a new central defender successfully.”

Speaking after a 1-0 win over 1. FC Nürnberg on Saturday - a second straight victory for the Függerstädter - coach Markus Weinzierl welcomed the new recruit, saying he “was the desired candidate to strengthen our defence.” He added: “We'd be delighted if Jeong-Ho Hong could develop in the same way Ja-Cheol Koo and Ji Dong-Won did last season.”

Looking forward to the Bundesliga

The new Augsburg No20 is delighted to be joining a club where his compatriots enjoyed such success before him. “I’m really looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga, and particularly to representing FC Augsburg,” he said. “I followed Ja-Cheol Koo and Ji Dong-Won’s progress with interest and I hope to be able to develop in the same way as they did here.”
