Gelsenkirchen - Adam Szalai will not have to undergo an operation on his right hand after club doctor Thorsten Rarreck confirmed the striker had only suffered bruising.

"Wanted to play"

It had been feared the 25-year-old had fractured his hand in FC Schalke 04's final training session ahead of Tuesday night's 3-2 victory over PAOK FC, but the Hungarian should be fit for the Royal Blues' clash with Bayer 04 Leverkusen this weekend.

After scoring a brace to help his side through to the UEFA Champions League group stage, Szalai is glad he was able to play against PAOK. "I am very happy it’s nothing worse,” he said. "I really wanted to play. Missing the match was never an option.”
