Munich - Bad news for quadruple-champions FC Bayern Munich, as talented Spanish Under-21 international tore ankle ligaments in the 2-0 victory against 1. FC Nürnberg.
The midfielder will undergo an exploratory operation in Munich on Monday and will miss at least seven weeks of action, including important games against SC Freiburg, VfL Wolfsburg and FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga, as well as the UEFA Super Cup Final against Chelsea FC in Prague.
Thiago was replaced by Thomas Müller in the 62nd minute of the victory against Nürnberg and was suffering obvious discomfort upon his departure from the contest.
The Spanish youngster was signed from FC Barcelona this summer by new head coach Pep Guardiola, and was making his full Bundesliga debut when the injury occurred.
