Berlin - 1. FC Union Berlin claimed their second win of the season after seeing off a Fortuna Düsseldorf fightback to claim a 2-1 victory.

Union had begun the season rather indifferently with a win, a loss and a draw, but they were determined to force last season's Bundesliga drop-outs back from the off. After Soren Brandy missed a good opportunity with a header, Adam Nemec made no mistake with the opening goal, nodding into an unguarded net after a slick move just before the break.

The result was effectively put to bed ten minutes after the restart when Nemec again found space to glance the ball past Dusseldorf’s Fabian Giefer from Torsten Mattuschka's precise set piece. Fortuna had been second best for much of the contest but they were given a lifeline when Axel Bellinghausen pulled a goal back. An equaliser proved beyond the Rhinelanders, however, with Union's Daniel Haas saving superbly to deny Stefan Reisinger in the dying minutes.
