Wolfsburg – VfL Wolfsburg's new recruit Luiz Gustavo hopes the 4-0 win over FC Schalke 04 on Matchday 2 will be the just the beginning of a fruitful career at the club.
The 26-year-old shone on his debut as the Wolves overpowered the Royal Blues to ease to an emphatic win. By contrast, Schalke were left licking their wounds having now conceded seven goals in their opening two league matches.
bundesliga.com rounds up the post-match reaction from the Volkswagen Arena…
Luiz Gustavo: Wolfsburg are a great club and my team-mates made it easy for me today. The coach asked me if I was up to playing and I said 'yes'. I missed some of pre-season, so it wasn't too bad being substituted. I still need two or three weeks to get fully fit.
FC Schalke 04
Benedikt Höwedes: Wolfsburg were better than us in every department today. We conceded the goals too easily and the whole defensive unit wasn’t right. We would have liked to make a better start to the season; one point from the first two games is too little.
Christian Fuchs: It’s not pleasant to play a game like that. Of course we have to analyse the mistakes we made, but we can’t dwell on this defeat for long. Perhaps the [UEFA Champions League] qualifier against PAOK Salonika will come at the right time for us.
