Gelsenkirchen - FC Schalke 04 attacker has been ruled out of Germany’s friendly against Paraguay on Wednesday.

Cautionary

The 19-year-old picked up a gash on his left ankle in the opening exchanges of his the Royal Blues' 3-3 draw with Hamburger SV on Sunday, which has worsened to heavy bruising.

“It could quite easily become inflamed, which would have more serious implications, so it makes no sense for Julian to travel to Kaiserslautern,” said Schalke’s sporting director Horst Heldt, and Draxler aims to be fit in time for Saturday’s Matchday 2 fixture at VfL Wolfsburg. “I hope it’s nothing serious," he said.

Meanwhile, national coach Joachim Löw has decided against calling up a replacement for Draxler, leaving centre-half Benedikt Höwedes Schalke’s sole representative in the Germany squad against Paraguay.
