The Germany Under-19 midfielder has put pen to paper on a five-year contract keeping him at the club until June 30, 2018 and will wear the No. 8 shirt.
The two clubs reached an agreement in principle at the end of June and the 18-year-old has been training with Schalke for the last few days, whilst the final formalities were taken care of.
“In the form of Leon Goretzka we’re delighted that, alongside Max Meyer, another incredible young talent has decided to ply his trade with FC Schalke 04,” said manager Horst Heldt after the protracted transfer negotiations finally drew to a close. “Leon belongs amongst the most talented players in the whole of Germany and has a huge amount of potential. There were several clubs interested in acquiring his services, but believes he has the best opportunity to develop himself further as an athlete with us.”
