The 26-year-old has joined the capital club on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract.
"In Alexander Baumjohann we have managed to acquire a player who is experienced but also versatile," commented Michael Preetz, Hertha's sporting director. Baumjohann himself was delighted to have sealed the transfer. "I'm really looking forward to the challenge at Hertha. I want to play my part so that we - the club, the team and the fans - can achieve our objectives."
Baumjohann previously made 65 Bundesliga appearances for FC Schalke 04, Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Bayern Munich. With six goals in 25 league games this season, he was one of the most impressive performers for Lautern, who failed to reach the Bundesliga after a play-off defeat to 1899 Hoffenheim.
