The 35-year-old veteran shot-stopper, who made twelve appearances for Augsburg in the second half of the campaign just past, has put pen to paper on a contract extension with the survival specialists which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2014.

"In the second half of the season Alex Manninger became a cornerstone of our squad,” said sporting director Stefan Reuter. “As a result we’re delighted that he’s decided to remain a part of FC Augsburg. He will continue to help further our team in the coming season with his overwhelming amount of experience.”

“The six months I’ve spent in the Bundesliga at FCA with this incredible group of supporters, the lovely city and the whole club have been a real gift for me,” explained Manninger, who is convinced he made the correct decision. “In the latter stages of your professional career, if you’re given an opportunity to continue playing in such a fantastic environment in one of Europe’s biggest leagues, then you don’t waste a single second on thinking about moving clubs. I’m looking forward to taking on yet more challenges.”
