Dortmund - Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has agreed a new contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2016 season.

"Roman is an extraordinary goalkeeper who consistently performs top-notch and has played an essential part in both the 2011 and 2012 Bundesliga championship as well as this season's progression to the UEFA Champions League final," commented BVB sporting director Michael Zorc.

Weidenfeller, who joined the Yellow-Blacks in 2002 from then Bundesliga rivals 1. FC Kaiserslautern, insisted he had "never thought of joining another club," adding: "BVB have been enjoying a unique development and growth in recent years and I want to be part of the this project in the future, too."

Weidenfeller has appeared in 282 top-flight fixtures for the 1997 European Champions Dortmund, conceding a total of 305 goals.
