Bremen - With such a fine tradition of European football over the past decade, it is surprising to see SV Werder Bremen struggling to even earn a place among the top six for the third season in a row.

Yet following the departures of several experienced first-team regulars (Naldo, Claudio PIzarro and Tim Wiese among others) last season, the harsh new reality is one of a raw young team who currently stand a greater chance of gracing Bundesliga 2 stadia next year, than they do arenas in Madrid or Manchester.
