The 27-year-old, who joined the club from 1. FC Köln in 2010, will now stay at the Audi Sportpark outfit until the summer of 2015.
"I feel very happy here in Ingolstadt and have had a great, if sometimes difficult, time here. But the club has stuck together", said the VfL Bochum academy graduate, brother of FC Schalke 04's Joel Matip. "FC Ingolstadt's journey isn't over yet, and neither is mine."
