Wolfsburg - VfL Wolfsburg and club captain Diego Benaglio have reached a mutual agreement on a contract extension that will keep the goalkeeper at the club until 2016, after concluding protracted discussions on Wednesday.

"VfL is my club"

Furthermore the new deal includes an option for the Swiss international to extend his stay at the club for a further year.

"I have always maintained that VfL is my club and that I want to stay in Wolfsburg long-term," said Benaglio, who has made 148 Bundesliga appearances since joining the Wolves in 2008. "I'm delighted to be able to play here for at least the next three years."

Sporting director Klaus Allofs led the contract talks with the 29-year-old in recent weeks and was pleased to have wrapped up the discussions. "We're delighted that the deal has now been successfully completed," stated Allofs. "It was always clear, from both sides, that we definitely wanted to continue working together as Diego has always uncompromisingly given everything for VfL."
