Doha – Bad news for Schalke 04 at their winter training camp in Doha: midfield duo and Christoph Moritz will both be out of action until beyond the season restart after picking up injuries in Sunday's 3-2 friendly victory over Al Sadd Sports Club.

Stay in the sun cut short

Dutch international Afellay, on loan from Barcelona for the season, suffered a muscle strain in his right thigh which the club say is likely to keep him sidelined for at least the next two months. A similar injury kept him off the pitch for several weeks in the first season-half.

In the game against former Schalke favourite and Real Madrid legend Raul's current club, also damaged the outer ligament of his right knee – he is expected to be unavailable for the next few weeks.

Both players are due back in Germany to commence treatment on Tuesday. New Schalke coach Jens Keller will thus have to further adjust his plans for the campaign restart against Hannover 96, a game for which both Jermaine Jones and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar are also unavailable.
