Munich - FC Bayern Munich defender has undergone a successful operation on the knee ligament injury that he suffered in last Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Borussia Dortmund on Bundesliga Matchday 15.

Encouraging signs

The 23-year-old had broken down in the first half of last Saturday’s encounter in the Allianz Arena after a collision involving Dortmund’s Mario Götze and team-mate Javi Martinez, resulting in his immediate withdrawal. It was later revealed that he had suffered torn cruciate ligaments in his right knee.

The club has now confirmed, however, that the operation he underwent in Augsburg on Monday morning was a success.

Capped 30 times for Germany at senior level, Badstuber is expected to return to action in around five months' time, according to the diagnosis of club medical officer Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt.
