Gelsenkirchen - Director of sport & communications Horst Heldt has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension with Bundesliga outfit FC Schalke 04, keeping him at the club until 30 June 2016.

"Relying on continuity"

Although the document is still without "the last two signatures", Heldt has already shaken hands and verbally assured Schalke chairman Clemens Tönnies that he will remain with the Royal Blues. As a result the club announced the news on Saturday morning.

"We're relying on continuity in this key position. For us that means Horst Heldt. He is currently doing an excellent job for the club," said Tönnies. Heldt had originally joined Schalke from fellow Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart in July 2010. His current contract was due to run out during the summer of 2013.
