Bellinghausen, a product of Düsseldorf's youth system, played for the club from 1998 to 2005 before spending four years at 1. FC Kaiserslautern and three FC Augsburg. The 32-year-old returned to Fortuna in 2012.

"I'm really happy that we came to an agreement and that I can stay at the club," said Bellinghausen. "Fortuna is my team, everybody knows that by now. The decision should be a positive message for everyone at the club, and help us to avoid relegation."
