SC Paderborn 07 have relieved Stefan Effenberg of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.
The club confirmed the news on Wednesday evening, the day after Paderborn were held to a goalless draw away at Karlsruher SC that left them 17th in the table and in an automatic relegation place.
Effenberg’s tenure at the Benteler Arena began with victories over Eintracht Braunschweig and 1. FC Union Berlin, but they would prove to be Effenberg's only successes on the touchline. The club are now winless in their last 12 league games – since 24 October – and have scored just once in the last seven matches.
The East Westphalians are next in action against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Saturday.
