Emil Forsberg has given RB Leipzig a major boost by signing a three-year contract extension, tying himself to the Bundesliga 2 leaders until 2021.
Forsberg has become a key member of the team since arriving from Swedish outfit Malmö FF in January 2015, scoring six times in the league this season to help Leipzig open up a six-point lead at the top of German football’s second tier.
'The club of the future'
"I'm very happy here. I love the club, the fans and the city and I didn't need long to decide on extending my contract," said the 24-year-old Sweden international. "Leipzig is the club of the future and that's why I’m here."
Ralf Rangnick’s side are next in action away at SC Paderborn 07 on Matchday 23 when victory will take them a step closer to promotion to the top flight.
Should they secure a place among the elite, they would become the first club from a city in the former East Germany to compete in the Bundesliga since FC Energie Cottbus in 2008/09.
