- Nürnberg could have pulled to within a point of second-placed Leipzig with a win.
- Braunschweig pulled into a 3-0 lead just beyond the hour mark.
- Guido Burstaller's 13th goal of the season proved little more than a consolation for the visitors.
1. FC Nürnberg are guaranteed to end the season in at least the promotion/relegation play-off place, but a 3-1 defeat to Eintracht Braunschweig means that RB Leipzig could pip them to second with a win against Karlsruher SC next Sunday.
Although separated by 19 points at kick off, Braunschweig matched promotion-chasing Nürnberg blow-for-blow in the first half, and took the lead two minutes before the interval when Gerrit Holtmann burst past two markers on the left wing and cut back for Salim Khelifi, who finished off his eighth goal of the season from close range.
The second half followed in much the same vein, and Ken Reichel made it 2-0 within the hour when he marauded forward from left back before reacting quickly to Patrick Rakovsky's parry to force home his seventh goal of the campaign. Maximilian Sauer made it 3-0 soon after, tapping home from metres out after good work out wide from Orhan Ademi. Nürnberg pulled one back through Guido Burgstaller, but it proved little more than a consolation for Der Club, who are now hoping for Leipzig to slip up.
