- Union squander a two-goal half-time lead
- Nürnberg score six in the second half
- Win keeps Nürnberg in hunt for automatic promotion
1. FC Nürnberg came from two goals down to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive with a 6-2 win over 1. FC Union Berlin.
Things were certainly not following the script Nürnberg had imagined when Adrian Nikci headed in against his former side. Another header, this time from Damir Kreilach, raised the prospect of a third straight defeat for the Bavarians, which would have ended their dreams of automatic promotion.
They were revived with a stunning second-half fight-back, however. Tim Leibold got them back into the game within five minutes of the restart before Niclas Füllkrug tucked away a penalty to bring them level. Füllkrug struck again, deflecting Guido Burgstaller's shot midway through the second half to complete the turnaround before Burgstaller added a fourth himself. Füllkrug completed his hat-trick and there was still time for Even Hovland to complete the rout as Nürnberg kept up the pressure on the top two.
