SC Freiburg moved another step closer to an immediate return to the Bundesliga with a 3-0 win over MSV Duisburg which leaves the Zebras on the brink of relegation.
Knowing that two more wins from their last four matches would see them back into the top flight, Freiburg took the lead midway through the first half when Vincenzo Grifo curled in a direct free-kick from almost 30 metres. The writing was on the wall for Duisburg less than ten minutes later when Maximilian Philipp headed in Grifo's cross to double Freiburg's advantage.
A foul by Enis Hajri on Grifo inside the area saw the Duisburg defender sent off and a penalty awarded, which Nils Petersen dispatched with aplomb to seal victory for Christian Streich's men, who will be promoted on Saturday if 1. FC Nürnberg lose at home to 1. FC Union Berlin.
