FC St. Pauli kept their faint promotion prospects alive with a hard-fought - but ultimately comfortable - 2-0 home win over a VfL Bochum 1848 side that had harboured hopes of challenging for third place themselves.

The visitors from the Ruhr had the better of an entertaining first-half and created at least three good scoring opportunities. Their profligacy was punished after the restart, however, when US striker Fabrice-Jean Picault struck twice within 13 minutes to secure all three points for the home side.

The victory lifts St Pauli above Bochum into fourth and maintains the Hamburg side's outside chance of sneaking into the promotion play-off spot.
