- The USMNT striker is also the first USA international to reach such a high tally in a single campaign.
- The 23-year-old has scored nine times in his last seven league outings.
1. FC Union Berlin striker Bobby Wood set a new single-season goal record by a USA international in Germany on Friday after scoring a brace in his side's 4-0 victory away to SC Paderborn 07.
Wood now has 16 goals in Bundesliga 2 this season, meaning he not only became the first-ever Union Berlin player to reach that tally in a single campaign, but also the first American player to record such a haul in German football.
The 23-year-old, who has ten international caps for the United States Men's National Team, scored twice in the opening 13 minutes to pave the way for Union's victory.
His first goal was a superb individual effort: after latching on to a loose ball in midfield, Wood powered into the Paderborn box and coolly fired home. His second came moments later, expertly controlling a long ball forward on the counter-attack before holding off his marker and racing through to double Union's lead.
Former FC Bayern München player and current USMNT head coach Jürgen Klinsmann was quick to praise the striker on Twitter, saying: "Two more goals by Bobby Wood! Congrats!"
