SC Freiburg pulled past RB Leipzig to the top of Bundesliga 2 with a 3-2 win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth at the Stadion am Laubenweg on Monday night.
Freiburg bounced into the game having won their previous six Bundesliga 2 matches, and they opened the scoring after only two minutes when Florian Niederlechner steered home his sixth goal since his winter arrival from 1. FSV Mainz 05. Fürth struck back midway through the half when Sebastian Freis skipped past two defenders before finishing off a fine 11th goal of the season against his former employers. Freiburg edged back in front before the half was out, though, when Maximilian Philipp smashed home after finding himself unmarked on the edge of the box.
Fürth got back onto level terms once again soon after the restart when Robert Zulj picked up on a poor clearance before drilling low into the far corner of Alexander Schwolow's goal, but the hosts' joy lasted for less than ten minutes, with Vincenzo Grifo capitalising on some calamitous defending at the other end to net his 12th of the campaign and complete the scoring at 3-2, taking Freiburg level on 59 points with Leipzig, though Christian Streich's men have a ten-goal superior goal difference.
