1. FC Nürnberg kept the Bundesliga 2 title race alive with their sixth straight win, this time putting struggling FSV Frankfurt to the sword. Substitute Danny Blum stole the show with two late goals to complete a 3-0 win at the Frankfurter Volksbank Stadion.
Goals: 0-1 Füllkrug (67'), 0-2 Blum (87'), 0-3 Blum (89')
Despite beginning their Matchday 28 encounter 24 points behind third-placed Nürnberg, FSV Frankfurt matched Der Club blow for blow in the first half. Nürnberg's Hanno Behrens saw a close-range header saved in the opening few minutes before Dani Schahin missed a chance at the other end. With matching 4-4-2 formations and 50 percent of possession each, the teams cancelled each other out for long spells and it was goalless at the interval.
Nürnberg played significantly more like the side that beat leaders RB Leipzig 3-1 last Sunday in the second half, though, and they took the lead when Niclas Füllkrug bundled home his tenth goal of the season - and third in as many weeks - after the hosts failed to clear a corner. Substitute Blum then steered home into the far corner late on before adding gloss to the scoreline with the final attack of the game to seal a 3-0 win. René Weiler's side are now level with second-placed SC Freiburg on 56 points, three points from Leipzig, with six games left to play.
